Cup of tea? Chocolate dipped Tea Bag Biscuits

I saw these gorgeous little biscuits on Not Quite Nigella's blog, I am always on the lookout for cute biscuits for afternoon tea parties and this fit the bill!

They are quite simple to make and proved to be a hit at the gathering. I used Lorraine's sugar cookie recipe found here and followed her instructions on cutting etc. The recipe is quite 'short' so the biscuits don't rise or lose their shape. I used a drinking straw to create the hole for the string - this works really well - just press the end of the straw into the raw biscuit and the hole will pull out when you pull the straw out - the hole is generous enough to still be able to thread a piece of cotton through after cooking.

I made the tea bag tags from scrapbook paper that I already had. I cut rectangle shapes (actually I delegated that job to my sister who was visiting at the time). I stuck double sided tape on one half of the blank side of the tag and then threaded the cotton through the hole of the cookie, tied the ends together, stuck them down on the tape on the tag and the folded the tag over to form a square tag.

I added the tea leaves from an Orange Pekoe tea bag - the leaves were already quite fine so I didn't bother trying to grind them down. That's what the black flecks you can see in the biscuits.

What a fantastic idea and so easy to execute. Vanilla bean scraped would also give you flecks or perhaps poppy seeds too I imagine.
